When we published our last post about the top airshows every pilot needs on their radar, we were flooded with terrific suggestions about other shows that you shouldn’t miss!
So, here’s a fresh list with more of the world’s best airshows to add to your travel plans this year.
Royal International Air Tattoo
Where: RAF Fairford, Ohio Ave, Fairford GL7 4DG, United Kingdom
When: July 19 - 21, 2019
This legendary airshow celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, hosting a record-breaking 185,000 people. This year they’re returning to their usual schedule with a preview day on Friday and 12-hour shows Saturday and Sunday. This is one of the world’s largest and most complete airshows, with about 300 aircraft representing 30 nations. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin calls it “THE best airshow!”
Tickets range from £47-57 per day. Children under age 18 are free. Parking is free for ticket holders.
The grounds are open 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Legends in Flight
Where: Joint Base Andrews, 1191 Menoher Drive, Maryland, United States
When: May 11 - 12, 2019
Attracting members of the Department of Defense, world military leaders, and aerospace heroes, the 2019 Joint Base Andrews Air & Space Expo features presentations by the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels, plus the KC-135, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the UH-1N Iroquois.
This show is free to the public and parking is free at FedEx field. Premium tickets are $30 to $135.
Opening ceremonies for the general public begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and the performance schedule is Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Seymour Johnson Wings over Wayne
Where: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, 1630 Martin St, Goldsboro, North Carolina, United States
When: April 27 - 28, 2019
This is the largest free air show in North Carolina and typically attracts about 230,000 people. It features an acrobatic flying display by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, plus numerous other flying demonstrations during the two-day show.
Admission and parking are both free. Bleacher tickets are $20 to $30.
The first performance takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Wings over Houston
Where: Ellington Airport, Southeast of Downtown Houston in Webster, Texas, United States
When: October 19 and 20, 2019
Visit Houston in October to see two national military jet teams: the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. There will also be other demonstrations by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
This show is still in the planning stage, so keep an eye on their website for info about cost and times.
National Cherry Festival
Where: 108 West Grandview Parkway, Traverse City, Michigan, United States
When: July 29 - 30, 2019
On the opening weekend of the National Cherry Festival, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds Air Combat Command performs solo routines and formation displays. Enjoy this show on weekend afternoons, surrounded by other Cherry Festival celebrations.
Airshow passes are free as part of the Cherry Festival.
The show’s hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
Where: EAA Aviation Center, 3000 Poberezny Rd, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, United States
When: July 22 - 28, 2019
See both daytime and nighttime air shows during this week-long air extravaganza in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Air displays are combined with pyrotechnics and a huge nighttime fireworks display, making this a truly unique show to see.
Purchase daily tickets or a weekly pass ranging from $34 to $120.
The first aviation-related event begins Sunday, July 21, at 10 a.m.
